Chinese New Year Bakes

These are some of my Chinese New Year bakes. I just made the peanut cookies for hubby's relatives to bring back to Malaysia since they are staying with us on Sunday. The kueh bangkit is a trial to see if this year I have more luck in making them. Last year I just could not get them right. Glad to say that this year my kueh bangkit is good. It is funny sometimes that I used the exact recipe but sometimes you get them right and sometimes you don't.

hello hugbear,

i am p.t. beautiful kueh bangkit! the patterns are very neatly done. was it very time consuming to get the patterns right? i always love the taste of malaysian peanut cookies. do you fry and grind the peanuts yourself? how did you get the peanut cookies to be so brown and shiny?

Hi PT. It takes a little time to roll the dough out and cut it with different cutters. But not difficult lor.

I buy the roasted and grind peanuts from the wholeseller at Hougang. It is cheap and good. The peanut cookies are baked for about 20 mins only. To get the nice colour on top of the cookies, add a little bit of yellow colour into your eggyolk mixture to brush on top of the cookies.

You can get the cookie cutters from shops like Phoon Huat, Sun Lik, Ailin, Gim Hin Lee, etc.

hi leelee,
this is PT. your kueh bangkit recipe is so good. it is delicious and melts in the mouth.
however, the looks of my kueh bangkit is a far cry from yours. the kueh bangkit breaks easily when i try to decorate it. it is very difficult, and impossible for me, to bake such beautiful kueh bangkit like yours. you sure do have magic fingers.
