Coffee Cake

What does this remind you of? To me, it reminds me of the time when we will receive a box of assorted cakes like this whenever there was a wedding in the family. I remember we used to receive them whenver a relative or friend was getting married. Maybe to the younger generation, they will not understand the early days traditions. Nowadays, cakes are given in the form of cake gift voucher where you can redeem at the cake shop at your own convenience. Even the vouchers can be mailed instead of the wedding couples or family members sending it door to door. I suppose this really saves time and it is hassle-free for the busy to be married couple.

Michelle,

The receipe is the same as the spongecake recipe already in my blog. What I did was to heat up the 25 ml of milk with about 1 heapful tablespoon of coffee powder to be added to the batter. I have also added some coffee emulco (like 1 tbsp) for the colour and smell.

Hugbear, what is the transparent cream in blue and red made of? The other cream is fresh cream right?

Wow! These sure brought back memories! I love these kind of cakes when I was young, actually even now. I wish to do sth like this sometimes. Did you use buttercream or fresh cream? I remembered the old days, these cakes are usually in buttercream. How/where to get those transparent gel (the red and blue) on the cake?

It should be buttercream but I used freshcream since they are the leftover from the cupcakes that I made. The blue and red gel is actually piping gel. I just added colours of my choice.
