Sugarcraft Penguins & Ladybugs
Tried making some cute little penguins and ladybugs tonight. You can see some of the penguins are still a little wet. The little penguins are going to sleep in my sons' room with the aircon on and I hope they won't melt away. These few days' weather is not that suitable for drying sugarpaste. Haiz ...

Hi kwf, leaving it in the fridge to dry is not a good idea. It is better to let the sugarpaste dry first then keep in fridge. I tried to keep it in aircon room to dry but as soon as it is out of the aircon room it started to sweat. So, I think in the end still need to let it really dry out in normal room temperature. Of course if it's hot day it will be ideal.
Hi Tricia, try lah, who knows, you might get hooked like me. Just play play around with the paste, it's really like playing with your kid's playdough.
Ying, yes you can make the whole batch of sugarpaste. Cling wrap it tighty to prevent drying up. When you are ready to use them, take whatever amount you fancy and knead them up a bit to loosen it up. Add colour and knead until colour is evenly incorporated. Use it to mould as appropriate.
Thanks Lee for the tips on drying and storing. Will probably try it these few days as I need sth to decorate my cupcakes this weekend. Pray hard these few days are hot! Lol.....

Lee, I just tried making my own fondant today. Is your sugar paste rather dry at the end? I had a very hard time in the beginning coz everything was sticking to my hands and tabletop like super sticky paint, almost impossible to knead! Had to add a lot more icing sugar (at least 150gm more) before I can finally get the whole thing off my hands. Now I'm worried my end product is too dry. Not sure if I've done the right thing. Help!
Hi kwf, at the beginning stage, put the sifted icing sugar in a mixing bowl. Pour the liquid into the bowl and use a spoon to stir round to get as much icing sugar to be mixed with the liquid. After that knead the mixture in the bowl. Pour mixture now onto the tabletop. Continue to add more icing sugar to knead until the dough is not that sticky. I usually don't meaure the amount of sugar used as I will just add and knead and add and knead until it formed a soft dough just like a bread dough. If you find it too hard, you can always add just a tiny bit of water to the dough and knead again.

Oh, stupid me! I did the "well" on the table top! Lol....no wonder I've got such a big mess! It's a good lesson though. Will see what my dough turns out to be tmr...heee...pretty excited about it! My dough looks very dry compared to your wet penguins. That's why I thought it might be too dry. Never mind, I shall trial and error. Thanks very much for your precious tips!!

Ying, after clingwrap it, I put it into another plastic bag and leave it outside in normal room temperature. I don't like to leave it in fridge as it will take some time to thaw it before I can use. I like to be able to use them as and when I feel like.
