This recipe is really simple in terms of ingredients and steps. It was taken from the Chinese DJ Fenying's blog

Hi LeeLee,
Great looking fa kaos! how many fa-kaos does the recipe yield? i'm thinking of using muffin moulds for it. And taste-wise, izzit nice and soft? And if i use packaged coconut cream, do i have to dilute it abit? sorrie for asking so many questions. :) TIA!
Ida
Hi Ida, I used my chwee kueh mould for this. It's not the large size but medium size paper cups and I can get about 20 pcs for 1 recipe.
You can use your muffin trays but better to put paper cups in the muffin trays.
Ida, I forgot to ans the part abt taste and coconut milk. Tastewise, it is soft and moist and taste nice bcos of the coconut milk. You can cut down on the brown sugar if you do not have a sweet tooth. As for the coconut milk, you add the first 220 ml all thick without diluting it. You will definitely need more liquid than what the recipe calls for. This is the part where you can add some water to the coconut cream to dilute it (not too diluted also) before adding into mixture to get to the texture you want. Hope you know what I am trying to say. Do let me how yours turn out ok.
Thanks Leelee... i hope to try it this weekends. but i just remembered that my muffin tray is too big to go onto the steamer! :P so i'll use the tart moulds but i only have 5 of those. guess i've to split it up in a few batches. i hope the batter will be ok when left sitting ard. as for the coconut milk, looks like i've to "guess-timate"! haha
The batter will be ok even if you have to steam them batch by batch. Ya, for the coconut milk, using agaration method is ok.
Hi Leelee...
Tried out the recipe just now. I had to add abt 100gms more water to the batter. Texture wise, it's really nice and fluffy BUT my fa kaos din smile like yours! :( I really dunno where i gone wrong. Guess i've to try this again someday.
Your Fa Kao looks great! May I know if brown sugar is also named as gula melaka? Thanks.
Hi Jess, no brown sugar is not gula melaka. There are two types of brown sugar in the market. One is darker brown and the other is a lighter brown.
Hi Lee Lee,
Can you please translate this recipe?
Thanks a lot,
Mui Sim
Mui Sim, why need translation. Fengying's blog has the recipe in both English and Mandarin. This is the website. http://fenyingrecipe.blogspot.com/search/label/%E8%92%B8%E8%9B%8B%E7%B3%95
Hi Lee Lee,
Thanks for the website.
Thank you,
Mui Sim
Hi Lee Lee, just to inform you that I've used your pic in my blog to share the bloom I wish to achieve. I wish I can get something like that one day.
